New Student Orientation (NSO) Online Programming – Available August 3
A new NSO Canvas website is now live and available to both students and families. The NSO programming includes both online sessions and live presentations offering important information and great resources to get students started and prepared for arrival on campus.
Features on this website will include welcome messages from President Leshin, community members, alumni, and departments, as well as videos focusing on Academic Advising, the Insight Program, and what to expect once on campus.
Students should continue to check this website often as content will be updated and added regularly throughout the month of August, including recordings of live presentations.
WPI offers two pre-orientation programs for subsets of our incoming students.
First-Year International Students:
- Pre-Orientation – Dependent on individual travel schedules *
First-Year Connections Program:
- Pre-orientation – August 18 (virtual event)
All inquiries for the Connections Program can be forwarded to email@example.com or call 508.831.5796.
* International students who are able to arrive for the August 31 start of classes should aim to arrive during the morning of August 26. The International House will follow up with students individually on International Student programming. Any questions, please contact the International House at 508.831.6030.
Connections is a pre-orientation program for underrepresented students. A virtual welcome session will be held on August 18 from 1pm-5pm EDT. More information will be available in the weeks leading up to the session.
Whether or not you participate in these pre-orientation programs, all students should plan to attend new student orientation if they are able to. Further move-in instructions and new student orientation details can be found below.
New Student Move-In Day
Given the COVID-19 travel order announced July 24, 2020, a revised move-in plan is under development and will be updated as soon as it is available.
Welcome to WPI!
Important Dates – All New Students
- Move-In Day
August 26 – August 29*
Academic Affairs, Residential Services and Student Activities staff, along with the entire WPI Community, are already planning for your arrival as a member of the Class of 2024.
In order to promote social distancing and other health and safety behaviors, first-year students will be assigned a specific date and time to move into their residences between Wednesday, August 26 and Saturday, August 29, 2020*. Do not make any travel arrangements until you have signed up for a move-in time directly through the Residential Services Office. Early arrivals cannot be accommodated.
*Note: Reference Aug. 7 email from Residential Services for individual move-in day assignments.
Each student may bring one helper to move their belongings into their assigned residence. All visitors, including family should plan to leave campus immediately after assisting with move-in.
More details are available on the Moving In page, with more to come as the date approaches.
IMPORTANT: Should you need to make travel arrangements before you are able to select a move-in day and time, it’s strongly advised that you secure overnight accommodations in the event that your move-in day and time do not align with your travel plans.
